From 1977 to 1986, Byette’s career turned toward regional and national responsibilities.

In 1986, he returned to municipal work as director of recreation for the City of Lasalle and then for the City of Châteauguay, where his career path led him to successively hold the positions of director of recreation, director of technical services, assistant chief administrative officer and chief administrative officer, a position he held from 1992 to 2003.

Byette has held the position of director general for the City of Trois Rivières since 2003.
