How do I find information on Green Municipal Funds projects? The GMF Approved Project Database has been set up so that you can find information on GMF projects in two convenient ways:
- You can browse the database by project characteristic (project type, category, year approved, province/territory, population, and dollar value). By browsing in this way, you can combine different project characteristics in one search, making this a powerful search tool that quickly provides you with a range of related projects based on the information you choose to browse by.
- You can search the GMF Approved Project Database by keyword. This is a useful tool for anyone seeking information about a specific technology or application. Keyword searches provide you with information on GMF projects where the keyword you typed in appears in any of the project documents stored in the database for that project.
How do I find projects with specific characteristics? You can browse the GMF Approved Project Database by the specific characteristics of projects like project type, category, year approved, province/territory, population, and dollar value by using the search fields provided. For the project characteristic you are interested in, simply click in the blank search field next to the characteristic’s name and either type in or choose the information from the list that appears. For example, if you want to search for projects in a specific province, click on the blank space next to "Province" and then choose the province you are interested in from the list by clicking on it.
You can then repeat this process for other project characteristics if you want. To continue the example, you could also pick "water" from the Project Type list. Once you have picked all the project characteristics you want, click the "Browse" button to run the search. For our example, the result of the search would be a list of all the approved projects in the province of Alberta that fall into the water category.
How do I search for projects associated by keyword? You can search the GMF Approved Project Database by keyword by typing the word or phrase that interests you into the blank field under "Search the GMF Approved Project Database by keyword". This search will return a list of all the projects where the words you typed appear in any of the project documents stored in the database for that project.
How do I narrow the results for a keyword search? A keyword search may return a long list of projects that contain the keyword you typed in, however many may not be useful to you. For example, if you do a keyword search for the word "water" the search will return all water-related projects, including project where the terms storm water, wastewater, process water, potable water, drinking water, ground water, and so forth appear. This could be a very long list to read if you are only interested in wastewater projects, so you may want to rerun the search in a way that will narrow the results.
To narrow your search, you can use the following operators:
| Operator |
Explanation |
Example |
| And |
When you use "and" between keywords, all the terms entered must be present in your results. This guarantees that each project listed in the search result has each of your terms somewhere in its associated documentation |
Water and waste |
| Or |
When you use "or" between keywords, at least one of the terms entered must be included in the results listed. This is useful when there may be many words (synonyms, for example) that are relevant to your search, but you're not sure which may have been used in the projects. |
Savings or economy or reduction or decrease |
| Not |
When you use "not" between keywords, the terms that follow the "not" will not to be included in your results. This is useful for eliminating information that is irrelevant in the context of your query. |
Wastewater not storm water |
Quotes (" ") |
When you enclose your keywords in quotes, the results will be a list of projects that have project documents containing the EXACT phrase you've entered (treating it like a single search term). Therefore, a search for "stormwater runoff" will return results for that exact phrase, but it will not return results for storm water runoff or stormwater run off. |
"Wastewater management plan" |
