Presentation by Prof. Patrick Condon, University of British Columbia James Taylor Chair in Landscape and Liveable Environments, present "Building Better Compact Cities while Protecting and Restoring Green Infrastructure."
| Green infrastructure uses elements of the natural environment to replace or supplement traditional infrastructure. Green infrastructure provides economic, environmental, and social benefits that contribute to sustainable community development. Using green infrastructure reduces energy use, improves soil, air and water quality, and keeps energy dollars in the community. This session will identify the fundamental characteristics of green infrastructure including system integration, sizing and impacts. Panelists will review how green infrastructure relates to the long-term planning of urban areas and how it can contribute to achieving sustainability |
